HERO Tax Credit
The Louisiana Home Energy Rebate Option (HERO) Program offers
a cash incentive of $2,000 for Louisiana residents who make
qualifying energy efficiency improvements to existing homes.
The amount of money you qualify to receive is dependant on the
level of energy savings. All energy ratings are performed for
a fee (approximately $400) by private sector raters, trained
and certified to submit the required documentation to the
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for participation in the
HERO program. A preliminary inspection and application is
required of the existing home by the energy rater before the
improvements or construction begins. HERO is available to any
Louisiana home buyer or homeowner.
Below is a list of the energy efficiency improvements that may
be included for the rebate. Although each house is different,
generally speaking, the house will not quality for a rebate
unless it is at least 40 years old and will have at least a
new 13 SEER A/C installed along with a combination of the
following improvements.

High efficiency (13SEER or higher) central air-conditioning &
heating system

Insulated windows

Additional wall and attic insulation

Water heater

New duct system
-
Seal and insulate chase, fire place opening, and attic access
door

Air-tight lighting fixtures
